Terraria has been around for quite a while, so it only makes sense that there is hidden content and Easter Eggs scattered throughout the game. Aside from a full collaboration with Don't Starve Together, there are also tons of pop culture references that can be found.
In this list, we are going to take a look at all the hidden content and Easter Eggs that can be found in Terraria. For the most part, you won't be missing out if you don't catch this content, but they can help make the world a bit more interesting to explore.
9 Doctor Who
Doctor Who is a wildly popular television series, stretching way back to 1963. Since then, the series has been rebooted and has grown into the show that we know today. In Terraria, you can obtain the Doctor's set, which is a shirt and jacket with a red bowtie, as well as some blue-ish pants.
This is a reference to the Eleventh Doctor, who is played by Matt Smith. While the Fez hat isn't part of this set, the Fez description mentions that Fez's are cool, which is something that he is known for saying.
Lastly, the Wizard NPC will make a Doctor Who reference as one of his dialogue options. While speaking with him, he will mention how he tried to bring an Angel Statue to life, but it didn't do anything. This is in reference to the Weeping Angels, which are quite terrifying angel statues that only move when you don't look at them (or blink!).
8 The Sword In The Stone
There are a lot of background objects in Terraria. Most of these objects can be destroyed, and don't yield any resources. One such object is a sword that is stuck in a stone.
Unlike other background objects, the enchanted version of the sword and stone will drop the Enchanted Sword. This is an auto-swinging sword that fires projectiles in the attack direction. If you are ever caving and see a lot of background objects, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for this magical sword!
7 Quacking Ducks
There's nothing too out of the ordinary about ducks quacking, right? Well, in Terraria, you may be wrong. Most of the time, ducks will do their usual quack, but every once in a while, you will hear a quack that doesn't fit in quite like the rest.
If a group of ducks is together, it's very likely that you will hear a human voice saying the word 'quack'. This is never explained, and it can catch you off guard if you weren't expecting to hear a real voice.
6 Minecraft Creepers
There's nothing quite like the Minecraft Creeper. This green, blocky enemy can cause some extreme jump scares in Minecraft, but they aren't nearly as scary in Terraria.
Rather than running into a Creeper, you will be able to get a Creeper set, which consists of a mask, a shirt, and a pair of pants. When all three pieces are on, you will look just like a Minecraft Creeper. This set can only be found during Halloween, and has around a five percent chance to drop from Goodie Bags.
5 Andrew The Guide
The Guide is the first NPC that spawns in the world, and can help you get started on your Terraria journey. Upon starting a new game, the Guide's name will be randomized, which means that you can't choose it yourself.
If the Guide's name randomly generates to Andrew, you are in for a surprise. When Andrew the Guide dies, he will to the Green Cap. This hat can only be obtained from Andrew, making it quite rare. The Andrew in question is Andrew Spinks, who is the creator of Terraria.
4 Stardew Valley's Joja Cola
Stardew Valley is a popular farming simulator game that has captivated the hearts of gamers around the world since 2016. In this game, you live just outside a town that has a tight-knit community. Unfortunately, Joja Mart threatens this. Joja Mark is a corporate grocery store with the signature drink of Joja Cola.
This little soda makes an appearance in Terraria as a consumable that grants the Well Fed buff. Interestingly, if you are near the Dryad, she will want to purify the Joja Cola. Doing so will cause her to open a portal to Stardew Valley, and you will receive a Stardrop, which summons a pet Junimo.
3 Cave Story's Robot Hat
Cave Story is another video game that you can find references in Terraria. In Cave Story, you play as Quote, a robot who wears a red and white hat with green earpieces.
While slaying Piranhas and Angler Fish in Terraria, you will have just a 0.4 percent chance to find the robot hat vanity item. This is just a small reference, but interestingly, this hat is one of the few that will change your hairstyle.
2 ActRaiser Bread
ActRaiser, anyone? If you don't know what this game is, don't worry. This is a fairly old platformer, first launching back in 1990. The game has since launched on other platforms, including the Nintendo Switch in 2021.
In ActRaiser, you will encounter a kid named Teddy, who has run away from home. You will then need to give him a loaf of bread to come back home. This is where Terraria's Artisan Loaf comes in. The description for this item states that it is "Legendary Bread that once reminded Teddy of home". This is quite a deep cut, and it's great to see ActRaiser still being referenced.
1 Plantera's Name
Lastly, we have the origin of Plantera's name. Plantera is a Hardmode boss that looks like a giant pink flower bulb. Plantera's name comes from the band Pantera, which happens to be the favorite band of Cenx (Whitney Spinks). This is the VP of Re-Logic, as well as the Game Designer for Terraria and the wife of Andrew (Terraria's creator).
Pantera is a metal band, which explains the metal music that plays during Plantera's boss fight. Additionally, the boss drops "The Axe", which looks very similar to the one belonging to the guitarist of Pantera.
