Diablo fans have been treated with a slew of new content across the series today, as Blizzard has been providing updates on titles such as Diablo 4 and Diablo: Immortal. Alongside the news that Diablo 4's Season of the Malignent will begin later this monht on July 20, a new Blood Knight class was also revealed for Diablo: Immortal, the first time any Diablo title has received a new class for over nine years.

Diablo: Immortal will be adding the Blood Knight class later this month on July 13, joining the likes of the Barbarian, Crusader, Demon Hunter, Monk, Necromancer, and Wizard. For those wondering, the last time a new class was introduced in a Diablo game was when the Crusader class released in Diablo 3 way back in 2014.

For all you lore nerds out there, Blizzard also went into the backstory of the Blood Knight, explaining that these characters are humans that were bitten by vampires, but were saved by an ancient order which uses a ritual to halt the curse before it fully takes over. As a result, they can temporarily into a horrible creature called an Abomination, which the developers describe as the Blood Knight letting "the curse off the leash a little bit". In exchange, this order tasks their Blood Knights with ridding the world of the very same vampires that cursed them.

As for the actual gameplay, the Blood Knight has a cool few tricks that compliments its standard spear attacks. For starters, the Blood Knight can use a skill called Syphon Blood which has them float through the air draining the life out of any enemies that come close. You can also transform into an Abomination, which brings with it more attack power and a unique set of skills specific to your transformed state.

Unfortunately, the Blood Knight will only be playable in Diablo: Immortal for the forseeable future, with no hint that the class will be coming to Diablo 4. However, given that Blizzard has pledged to support the game for a fairly long time, there's still a chance we could see the class jump to Diablo 4 at some point, especially since the possibility hasn't been ruled out for future seasons just yet. Hopefully, Blizzard is using Diablo: Immortal as a makeshift testing ground.

For those who want to try out the Blood Knight, you can either start a new character, or you can class change. There's also an upcoming Fractured Plains event that will allow you to play as a Blood Knight, no matter your class, though it is temporary.
