Once you've unlocked World Tier Three in Diablo 4, you gain access to some much more challenging content that will greatly reward you if you're able to make it through in one piece. Helltide is one of these more challenging events, spawning a little over every two hours and lasting for about one hour.

During this time, you can confront increasingly difficult enemies, unlock Tortured Chests, and collect some awesome Legendary and Sacred gear. Howver, if you're not feeling up to it, you don't need to take the Helltide on with a party — if you're strong enough and ready for a challenge, Helltide can readily be conquered solo.

10 Prioritize World Events

If you spot a World Event that's open during Helltide, you should make your way to it immediately. They can be a bit difficult on your own, but given the amount of Aberrant Cinders you can get from an event, it is absolutely worth the challenge and time it takes to complete them. Although both the Radiant and Greater Radiant chests will give you Aberrant Cinders, the Greater Radiant Chest will give you notably more (even if you don't get better Legendaries or sacred items from it).

9 Avoid The Helltide Assassin

You will more than likely run across the Helltide Assassin at least once while you're participating, and regardless of what your level is, you should avoid the Helltide Assassin at all costs. This isn't because it's necessarily dangerous, but it's because it absolutely is not worth it to try and fight it.Unless you're at a high enough level and can take it out with ease (or there are a handful of other people chasing after it), it will be a waste of time.

The Helltide Assassin takes way too long to fight and doesn't offer nearly enough Aberrant Cinders or items when it finally drops, so despite its difficulty, it's definitely not one of the best world bosses to face off against.

8 Target Elite Enemies

If you spot an Elite enemy while you're wandering through the Helltide area, make a beeline for it. Although Elite enemies are more challenging, especially if you end up in the middle of a swarm, the sheer amount of Aberrant Cinders they drop is worth it.Elite enemies make farming Aberrant Cinders less of a tedious process, and if you prioritize hunting them down over stopping for every small group that crosses your path, you're likely to get at least enough Aberrant Cinders for one or two Tortured Chests.

7 Keep An Eye On Your Health

Although it sounds fairly self-explanatory to keep an eye on your health and not die, it's a lot harder during Helltide than you might think. It's very easy to run out of potions, and it's even easier to die as soon as you get unwillingly pulled into the middle of an enemy swarm.

Take the time to open Tortured Soul caches and chests regularly because you'll need the potions they drop, and if all else fails, take the death and run back to town to repair your armor and drop by the healer. Just keep your trip into town as short as you can and hope that you can regain the Aberrant Crystals you lost when you died.

6 Spend Your Aberrant Cinders, Don't Hoard

There's really no reason to hoard as many Aberrant Cinders as you can get your hands on because the most expensive Tortured Gift, the Tortured Gift of Mystery, only costs 175 Aberrant Cinders. Trying to hoard Cinders beyond that is only going to end in pain because you're either going to die and lose half of your Aberrant Cinders. The worst-case scenario is that the Helltide Event ends without you realizing it, and then all of your hard work disappears and goes out the window.

Check on the map for the chest you want, see how many Aberrant Cinders you need, and then work towards that goal, and then open the chest as soon as possible.

5 Only Grab Legendary Items

You should only be picking up Legendary and Sacred items because anything that's rare or common will just be a waste of inventory space and time. If your inventory fills up too fast, you'll have to make a pit stop in town to scrap it all at the Blacksmith or take too much time dumping it from your inventory stash. As such, it's best just to be careful with what you pick up in the first place and keep on top of your inventory management. That doesn't mean you can't go to town, but you really should try to keep those trips as short and as few as possible.

4 Use Your Horse To Get Around

You'll run into a lot of enemies during Helltide, but not all of them will be worth it, or you need to get through to a World Event you've spotted. Don't hesitate to use your horse to dash around the map or teleport around if you're a sorcerer.Your horse is also a great way to dash out of large groups if you get caught; you just need to make sure you're fast to activate the dash (rather than immediately getting off). Running around is a waste of your time when you have a horse at this point in the game unless you have great mobility aspects.

3 Round Up Groups Of Enemies

Instead of dealing with one small group of enemies after another, try to round them up into one much larger group before you start dealing damage. It's a bit more dangerous and much easier to get caught in the middle of a swarm, but it saves more time, and it's much more satisfying.

Make sure you don't wait too long before you start dealing damage because if the enemies move too far away from their spawn position, they will run back to where they came from.

2 Follow Other Players

You don't have to be in a party to benefit from following other players, regardless of if they're in a group or playing solo. Being near other players will give you an XP boost, and you both get to enjoy enemy and chest drops.Helltide can be exceedingly difficult, and following other players around will, at the very least, make things a little bit easier to get through. Plus, you can coax other players into the world events with the "follow me" or "help" emotes, though you should thank them once the world event is over.

1 Play Both Offense And Defense

Playing only offense or playing only defense is not an option in Helltide, and it will get you killed because Helltide will put all of your abilities, skills, and gear to the test. If you don't have good gear or skills set up, you will struggle in Helltide, whether on your own or with other people.Level up your gear at the blacksmith, ensure you have good Legendary abilities, the right gems in the right gear, and a good build so you don't die too often. Feel free to experiment and refund skills or Paragon Points so you can play around a little bit when the next Helltide comes around.
