The cult classic kid-friendly GTA clone holds a special place in our hearts and is one of the few decent licenced games we got back in the day. With that in mind, it's no surprise that so many fans are frustrated that it still hasn't seen a modern re-release, prompting one player to take matters into their own hands.

<![CDATA[The Next Simpsons Game Can't Be A Hit & Run Remake]]> Whenever people talk about classic games that need a comeback, The Simpsons Hit & Run is always near the top of the list. It's a beloved classic, and while I think a like-for-like remake wouldn't quite hold up today (it was a little short and very janky by modern standards), I'm amazed EA has refused to channel The Simpsons' enduring popularity, and the cult classic status of their games, into something new.

<![CDATA[The Simpsons: Hit & Run Was Pitched As "GTA For Kids"]]> Despite it being a cult classic for many, The Simpsons: Hit & Run feels like a staple of every gamer's childhood. It's widely regarded as one of the best Simpsons games of all-time, and is still the highest-rated to boot, so it should be no surprise that the developers of the title - Radical Entertainment - took plenty of inspiration from another popular and extremely influential series - GTA.

<![CDATA[Elden Ring Fan Draws Favorite Simpsons Scenes Starring Demigods And Tarnished]]> When you think about it for a second, The Simpsons have a lot in common with Elden Ring. They're both largely about a dysfunctional family that is constantly at each other's throats as the mother figure tries to play peacemaker. And when that mother disappears, they all go at it like rabid animals. Really, George R. R. Martin probably just watched a bunch of Simpson's episodes when he was writing Elden Ring's lore.

From Australian soaps to crime-based dramas featuring ducks, some video game adaptations just don’t make the cut when it comes to quality, or even representing the show it's based on. However, while not every video game based on a TV show is great (and let’s be honest, the two mediums don’t really work together the majority of the time), sometimes the games just about manage to nail certain elements perfectly.

With absolutely no announcement, many found it bizarre to see this long-forgotten game (well, forgotten by rights holders anyway) get shown some love. <![CDATA[Games That Would Be Better If You Travelled With God Of War's Mimir]]> God of War’s Mimir spends most of his time hanging from the hip of a Spartan god, making snide comments about the world around him, all of which he views from crotch level. But it’s mostly things he’s already seen - realms he’s visited and places he’s familiar with. Imagine a completely confused Mimir strapped to the hip of Homer Simpson, forced to watch as he jumps around the land of chocolate in pursuit of a bouncing bunny.

<![CDATA[What Simpsons Episodes Should You Watch Before The Death Note Parody]]> It has been curious to see the reaction to The Simpsons parodying Death Note in the upcoming Treehouse of Horror episode. I’ve been a long-time defender of The Simpsons, writing on multiple occasions that the modern episodes are way better than they’re given credit for, even as people who haven’t watched the show in a decade scoff that it isn’t as good as it used to be. It’s great then to see a bunch of people coming back to the show, surprised (or perhaps faux-surprised) to see it retain such quality. If you’re looking to get back into The Simpsons here’s some places you should start.

<![CDATA[Lisa The Boy Scout Is Not Canon, But It Proves The Simpsons Still Belongs On TV]]> The latest episode of The Simpsons, Lisa The Boy Scout, follows the traditions of the likes of Barthood, Brick Like Me, A Serious Flanders, Woo-hoo Dunnit?, Thanksgiving of Horror, and The Great Phatsby. If you don't know what any of those are, I probably don't care too much about your opinions on the episode, nor The Simpsons in general. Those are all relatively modern episodes wherein the show has looked at its own stale formula and tried something new. The internet is full of people who no longer watch The Simpsons explaining why The Simpsons is no longer any good and hey, broken clocks. Occasionally The Simpsons produces a dud. It's way off the pace of the Golden Age, but then so is pretty much every comedy on television. There are arguments and debates swirling around Lisa The Boy Scout, but the way it has managed to capture the public conversation once more is further proof that the show is still going strong.

<![CDATA[The Simpsons Shorts Just Keep Getting Worse]]> At a certain point, I have to blame myself. The Simpsons shorts just aren’t good, and it’s on me for getting my hopes up. Prior to the recent double header, the last short was a Billie Eilish vehicle, and while it had a couple of chuckles, it seemed wasted as a short. The Loki crossover which preceded it was, in my mind, the worst thing The Simpsons have ever put out. I know you all think The Simpsons is trash these days, but I also know you don’t watch it anymore. It wobbled in the mid-20 seasons, and it’s not Golden Age quality anymore, but it’s not the garbage it’s often dismissed as. Unfortunately, The Simpsons shorts are every inch as terrible as The Simpsons episodes that exist in your mind.

Right now the game is still in its first season, and technically still in its open beta to boot. <![CDATA[The Simpsons Movie Is Still One Of The Best Animated Movies Ever]]> Animated movies seem to be perpetually stuck in a weird place in our culture. For pretty much anyone of any age, animation is part of our most formative media experiences. The most successful animation classics have been passed down through generations, and are still enjoyed by adults and children alike. However, animation is still looked down upon by some people, and a lot of the overall progress has been made by the ‘90s-era birth of ‘adult animation’ breaking new ground. The Simpsons was chief among them and, 15 years on, it’s time to reflect on how The Simpsons Movie came to be one of the greatest animated films of all time.

<![CDATA[Bob’s Burgers Fails To Learn From The Simpsons Movie]]> Bob’s Burgers and The Simpsons are indelibly linked. Both strive to highlight the ordinary lives of an American family, and it speaks to the growing class divide and economic downturn that the struggling Belchers represent the new normal, while The Simpsons, with two cars in the garage in a suburban neighbourhood on the salary of a single working man (despite some single episode stories, Marge has remained a stay at home wife), have long been outdated. Bob’s Burgers was attached to The Simpsons - and Family Guy - during Animation Domination, and began as the struggling newbie riding coattails before growing into the more reliable, consistently high quality toon compared to its cousins. They are similar in so many ways, but their movies feel very different.

<![CDATA[Disney Has Ruined The Simpsons Shorts]]> Not a lot of people know this, but The Simpsons has been nominated for an Oscar. While The Simpsons Movie itself missed out (though it was nominated for a BAFTA and a Golden Globe), the very first Simpsons short, Maggie Simpson in The Longest Daycare, was up for Best Animated Short Film. Though it eventually lost to Paperman, it felt like a historic moment for The Simpsons. This came in 2012, well after the Golden Age had disappeared, and after the feature-length movie was snubbed for even a nomination, it was clear this was not a charity pick on name-brand recognition. The short, which is entirely silent and relies on excellent characterisation of Maggie, was still recognisably The Simpsons with a blend of silly yet intelligent humour, heartfelt moments immediately offset with gags, and better quality animation than the show had ever seen at that point. So what the hell happened?

<![CDATA[When Billie Met Lisa Is A Waste Of Both Billie Eilish And The Simpsons]]> The latest Simpsons short revolves around Lisa meeting Billie Eilish, and is creatively titled When Billie Met Lisa, and it bucks the trend of the last two Simpsons crossover shorts by being pretty decent, but I'm not especially sure why it exists. Scratch that, I know very well why it exists: it's an advert for Eilish's musical documentary Happier Than Ever, as well as potentially trying to appeal to younger Gen Z Eilish fans to get them to watch The Simpsons. But it all feels a little pointless, and a huge waste of what could have been a great episode for Billie Eilish.

I've seen every episode, all but the new season at least twice, everything pre-season 25 multiple times and everything pre-season 16 too many times to even count. I have Simpsons trainers, jackets, t-shirts, and earrings. I have way too much plastic merch. I've eaten in Krusty Burger and had a drink at Moe's. If I was the kind of person to have tattoos, I'd have a Die, Bart, Die tattoo and would explain the episode in which it comes from at length to anybody who ever politely enquired about said tattoo. I'm only saying all this because I feel the need to lay out my Simpsons credentials before I say what I'm about to say, or I guess what the headline already said. D'oh! Even as a die hard Simpsons fan, it’s hard for me to disagree too much. Post-season 11 or so, there’s nothing like Last Exit To Springfield, Homer the Heretic, or the all-encompassing greatness of season eight. A while ago, I wrote that Barthood was the only episode since the Golden Age that would feel at home in the era when The Simpsons was the undisputed best show on television. When I was a kid, that was something of a brag - now that I'm an adult, it feels sort of sad. But, nevertheless, it remains true. I love television. That's why WandaVision is my favourite TV show this year - it loves television too. Whatever season you might be thinking of putting forward to oust The Simpsons season eight, I have probably seen it, considered it, and rejected it as unworthy of the television gods. Prison Break season one? Please. Game of Thrones season three? Close, but not a chance. The Sopranos? Breaking Bad? The Wire? Mad Men? House? Twin Peaks? Lost? Sorry, no. The X-Files season four? You Only Move Twice, starring Hank Scorpio, the best one-and-done character ever, is a frontrunner. Homer's Enemy, featuring fellow season eight one-and-doner Frank Grimes is another. Last Exit To Springfield, Homer The Smithers, Homer The Heretic, and I Love Lisa would be up there too. 22 Short Films About Springfield is now immortalised for its 'steamed hams' bit, but the whole thing is a gem. What is mentioned far less frequently is Treehouse of Horror V, which is not only a worthy contender to the throne, it also features the best piece of horror comedy anywhere in any medium.

Popping quarter after quarter in colorful arcade cabinets was a highlight for many a weekend for me. Although fighting games like Street Fighter and racing games like Crazy Taxi tended to get a large portion of my allowance, beat ‘em ups were always my favorite.

<![CDATA[Simpsons Loki Crossover The Good, The Bad, And The Loki Is The Worst Simpsons Episode Ever]]> “The Simpsons sucks now!” is something I hear all too often these days. Allow me to get a little Stephen A. Smith for a second, because I’m here to tell you right now - we don’t care. The Simpsons is not as good as it was back in 1993, when it was regularly churning out episodes like Marge vs. The Monorail, Last Exit To Springfield, Cape Feare, and Homer’s Barbershop Quartet, but it has always seemed to me like The Simpsons is held to an unfair standard. How many shows on television right now regularly produce Simpsons ’93-level television? It’s not even the same writers, for the most part. Many of the OG writing staff either left the show or moved into production. After The Simpsons-Loki crossover though, I’m struggling to find any defense. It might be the worst Simpsons thing I’ve ever seen.

<![CDATA[The Rarest The Simpsons Toys And What They’re Worth]]> The Simpsons is one of the most recognized brands in the world. The TV show has been running for over thirty years, and episodes are still being churned out today. Combine the unique media longevity, immense popularity, and appeal to pretty much every single demographic out there, and the merchandise range on a brand with a global scope like The Simpsons is astronomical. It's up there with the likes of Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Pokémon with a fan-base age ranging from 8 to 80.

<![CDATA[Simpsons Speedrunners Interview]]> The world is desperate for a new Simpsons game. In fact, when a survey was conducted by UK gaming retailer Game about which title is most in need of a remaster, The Simpsons: Hit & Run won out against all others. The gamers were right - I guess there’s a first time for everything. What we sometimes forget about the classic Simpsons games, be they Hit & Run or Road Rage or just The Simpsons Game, is that they’re not very long. I’ve always been of the opinion that we need a completely new Simpsons game - something that’s not Tapped Out - rather than risking the legacy of older titles by polishing them up only for the nostalgia to be shattered by how shallow and short the beloved classics are. So short in fact that some people can beat them in just four minutes.

Hit & Run is a parodical take on GTA 3 and features a unique story about an alien mind-control cola. The game allows players to step into the shoes of all the Simpsons bar Maggie (the best Simpson), as well as fan-favourite Apu.

<![CDATA[Interview: Mike Reiss Of The Simpsons On Bleeding Gums Murphy, The Golden Age, And Tales From Iran]]> “Certainly, nobody loves hearing it at the show,” Mike Reiss, writer and producer for The Simpsons, tells me after I ask if he subscribes to the idea of the Golden Age. “Because if you weren't there in the Golden Age, you go ‘Oh so I’m here in the Crap Age.’ It's funny, the show’s early years are very well loved, but then when you press people, they go ‘well, not the first year. And the second year is kind of shaky, too’. And then we hit our stride partly because in the first couple of years we were just figuring out how to make the show. Nobody had made a show like The Simpsons, a weekly animated show, in 30 years and all the people who knew how to do it had died. We literally went looking for these people, and they were all dead. So we were kind of making it up as we went along.

From killer bees to the discovery of the Higgs boson equation to predicting a Nobel Peace Prize winner, and even its eerily accurate predictions related to politics, The Simpsons have been on a roll for 32 seasons depicting future real-life events in hilarious ways. It seems no end is in sight, either, as our favorite animated family seems to have accurately predicted another iconic figure, at least in terms of the video gaming zeitgeist: Lady Dimitrescu.

<![CDATA[The Latest Simpsons Short Proves That Maggie Is The Best Simpson]]> Each member of the family brings something special to The Simpsons. Bart, the original star of the show, is the most naturally funny family member, and is the only one of them to crack jokes. Being a ten year old kid, he’s just about old enough to have interesting, grown-up adventures, while still getting into childish scrapes, and has the complex morality of a child that lets him be a decent guy and bad to the bone simultaneously. Homer, who quickly eclipsed Bart as the show’s star, is the loveable goofball, carrying the show throughout its iconic legacy. Lisa is the show’s moral compass, the avenue to its most emotional stories, and the heart of its searing intelligence, while Marge is the glue that holds the family together and keeps the show grounded and focussed on the real issues. Maggie, meanwhile, is just a baby. Right?

<![CDATA[John Swartzwelder's First Ever Interview Is Everything I Hoped It Would Be]]> John Swartzwelder is something of a comedy Santa Claus, especially for a huge Simpsons fan like myself. The reclusive writer is the most prolific contributor to The Simpsons, with close to 60 episodes to his name alone, and that’s ignoring the dozens upon dozens more he worked the punch ups on. Not just any old fodder either - Swartzwelder was a key figure in the Golden Age, and penned classics like Homer at the Bat, Dog of Death, Bart the Murderer, Bart Gets an Elephant, and arguably the greatest Simpsons episode of all time, Homer’s Enemy - this one is the joint highest rated on IMDb, tied with my personal favourite, Hank Scorpio’s You Only Move Twice.

<![CDATA[Barthood Is The Only New Simpsons Episode That's As Good As The Golden Age]]> I love The Simpsons, and not just as a concept. Not just in the “oh yeah, Mr. Plow, that was funny,” kind of way. I still watch the new episodes every week and keep up with all the buzz around the show too. Unfortunately, that means I hear a lot of people complaining about how it’s not as good as it used to be over and over again. They’re right, for the record, but I also think these complaints are unfounded and unfair. Most people who moan about it don’t even watch it any more, and while there are a lot of low cards in the newer seasons’ deck, cutting the show off completely means missing out on a lot of great episodes - and none are greater than Barthood.

I mean, no one does that anymore, I’ll probably just buy it online, but you know what I mean. Day one purchase, no questions asked. Peter Katsis, Morrissey's manager, wrote a Facebook post to lash out at the producers of the show over the character Quilloughby, who was guest-voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, as he believed their caricature of Morrissey parodied him as a racist and overweight artist, which lead him to call the show "unapologetically hurtful and racist."

I have a lot of thoughts on why it has endured, but I’m more interested right now in why, for some people, it hasn’t. “It’s not as good as it used to be!” I hear you cry, and yeah - obviously. Simpsons seasons five to eight are some of the greatest seasons of television ever. It’s impossible to maintain those standards over 30 years. We all say it’s because the show isn’t funny anymore, but I think it goes much deeper than that. The Simpsons can’t represent the American family in the way that it used to, and it has been overtaken by shows that can.

<![CDATA[The Simpsons At 700: Why It Has Endured]]> I love The Simpsons. When most people say that, they usually mean that they love the scene when Sideshow Bob steps on the rake, or when Homer says “Tramapoleen! Trabopoline!” but that’s not what I mean. I mean I utterly love The Simpsons. It’s my favourite TV show of all time, and my love for it is too deeply ingrained for it to ever really be challenged for that title. I’ve watched every episode, all 699 of them, at least twice bar the most recent season, and many from the earlier seasons over ten times each. I got Disney+ specifically for The Simpsons, I own all of the released seasons on DVD, I have Simpsons books, Simpsons collectibles, Simpsons games - I even spent way too much money on the recent Simpsons-Vans sneaker collection. I. Love. The. Simpsons. This week, the show is turning 700, having already edged out Gunsmoke as the longest running primetime show ever 64 episodes ago. As a huge Simpsons fan - did I mention that already? - I think I’m well placed to describe just why the show has endured for so long.

<![CDATA[Seriously, Why Am I Still Waiting On A New Simpsons Game?]]> In two weeks’ time, The Simpsons will air its 700th episode, and we know it will be a flashback episode revolving around the Simpsons’ history with their neighbours, the Flandererses. It’s fitting that the show is using its anniversary to look back on the past, because for the last few years, it has been pining for the return of the glory days. We’ve seen callbacks to the monorail, Sideshow Bob’s rakes, Lisa’s substitute, Kamp Krusty, and many more besides in the past handful of seasons. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that it will never again hit Golden Era heights, but I still tune in every week. I’ve loved The Simpsons for as long as I can remember, it’s like a part of my childhood, and whenever cancellation comes, I’ll know it’s the right time to say goodbye. But with the show so concerned with nostalgia, all I want to know is where the hell’s my new Simpsons game?
