You probably love video games with epic stories and fantastic gameplay, but it’s rare for anyone to highlight those wonderful unintentionally funny moments that happen from time to time. There are so many reasons why such a moment can occur, but regardless, they’re likely to make you laugh.

One of the biggest offenders of unintentionally funny moments comes down to voice lines, but sometimes, developers make such unique choices that it’s hard not to crack up at such a bold swing. You probably have a few favorite moments, but there are so many that people around the world can’t help but laugh at.

10 Ragdoll Physics - Tears Of The Kingdom

Link gets ragdolled in the air by Colgera

Ragdoll physics are almost always funny, regardless of the game they’re found in. There’s just something hilarious about watching ultra-serious characters flop around as if they’ve lost all control of their body.

Tears Of The Kingdom goes a step further and, due to the sky-based mechanics, ragdolling has a whole new meaning. Watching Link sadly tumble down a steep cliff or seeing him spinning around through the sky is always funny, even if you know it’s about to result in an untimely death marked by a sad red X.

9 Steve And His Father - Resident Evil: Code Veronica

Steve Burnside code veronica

Believe it or not, this isn’t the only time Resident Evil will be featured on this list. Code Veronica is a great game that seems to be next up on everyone’s remake list, but the original had some hilarious dialogue choices for Steve Burnside.

At one point in the story, Steve and Claire are at odds with a zombie that happens to be Steve’s father. Steve has to make the choice to put him down, but he doesn’t do so without letting out one of the funniest screams to ever grace the Resident Evil series.

8 The Chase - Heavy Rain

Agent Jayden fails to chase a suspect

While everyone knows about the infamous press X to “JASON” moment, there are plenty of other unintentionally hilarious moments from Heavy Rain. One of the best is a chase scene featuring everyone’s favorite FBI profiler, Norman Jayden.

There’s a chase that takes you from the streets and through a supermarket and while the scene is fine on success, failing all the QTEs is one of the funniest things in the world. Watching this skilled FBI agent fail at every turn just gets ridiculous, especially when the chickens come into the equation.

7 Returning To The Early Areas - Pokemon Scarlet/Violet

Pokemon Scarlet Violet Route to Alfornada

You might be wondering what is so funny about the Pokemon series considering the fact that they’re pretty straightforward games. You have to think about it a bit, but the fact that you can accost level 4 creatures with literal gods by the end of the game is hilarious.

No player would go back to intentionally terrorize Pokemon, but at some point, everyone’s going to forget to use a repel only to face down a baby creature with a maxed-out Koraidon or Miraidon and immediately obliterate it.

6 Tidus' Laugh - Final Fantasy 10

While it is true that this scene has been widely misunderstood by a lot of people over the years, you can probably admit to chuckling a bit at the absurd laugh Tidus and Yuna have in Final Fantasy 10. It’s hard to say what about it really makes it funny.

It might be the sheer force put behind the laugh, or it could be the tone of the laugh. Maybe it’s just who Tidus is that causes everyone to laugh. You can be the judge, just try to be careful you don’t laugh too hard while you figure it out.

5 The Endings - Mortal Kombat 4

Mortal Kombat 4 - Scorpion yells at Sub-Zero

While some of the endings of Mortal Kombat 4 are perfectly normal, a lot of them are absurdly hilarious. For whatever reason, the characters feel the need to be consistently fidgeting around, and the vocal takes are an over-the-top thing of beauty.

Half the time the characters speaking to each other sound like they’re miles apart, despite being beside each other, and sometimes the lines step on each other. However, that doesn’t stop the actors from giving it their all. Some of the endings even troll you, making you wonder if the hilarity really is unintentional or not.

4 Press F To Pay Respects - Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare - Origin Scene Of The Press F To Pay Respects Meme

There is a lot that can be said about this Call Of Duty story moment. While it was likely meant to be a way to put you in the shoes of your character, the moment has been viewed as both ridiculous and mildly disrespectful at the same time.

It’s hard to not let out a chuckle at the sheer absurdity of a video game prompting you to push a button to pay your respects at a funeral. It was so unintentionally funny that the entire situation became a huge meme that some still use today.

3 Barry Burton - Resident Evil

Barry Burton aims a gun in Resident Evil

Rather than naming a single moment, you can really just point to any and every time that Barry Burton is on screen in the original Resident Evil. This legendary character performance is well-known, and that’s why it’s become so beloved.

Whether it’s Barry’s incredible jokes or insistence of Jill being the master of unlocking, the man chews the scenery. It’s impossible to adequately describe the incredible performance so it's best to just go back and see what all the fuss is about yourself, just be prepared to laugh the entire time.

2 That Poor Monk - Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks

Liu Kang and Kung Lao take on some enemies.

This is one of the more underrated unintentionally funny moments in gaming. If you missed the side games that were released for Mortal Kombat, you probably missed this incredible moment featuring Kung Lao, a monk, and Baraka.

Baraka stabs a monk through the head in brutal Mortal Kombat fashion before tossing him to the ground in front of Kung Lao. The mighty warrior’s only reaction is to bend down and ask the monk if he’s okay, but it’s probably a safe bet that the monk was in fact not okay.

1 The Entire Game - Oblivion

Arrested by a guard in Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion

Saying the entirety of Oblivion is funny isn’t meant to be a diss, in fact, the game is incredible and boasts a fun story. The issue is that every line of NPC dialogue is delivered in a way that reminds you of a wizard-cow — udder magic.

If you thought the arrow to the knee meme was a bit much, you’ll be shocked to hear that a number of Oblivion NPC dialogue are still going strong as memes. There is some funny slightly older game jank that happens with massive games, but that’s nothing compared to almost anytime you’re locked in a conversation or pass by a talkative character.
