A new Borderlands game was announced at San Diego Comic-Con, though it's unlike anything fans of the series will have played before. Instead of shooting and looting, players will watch a story unfold, as Borderlands EchoVision Live is a new "social interactive series" that will let the audience decide what the outcome of the story will be. Think of it as a massively multiplayer Telltale game, or Black Mirror: Bandersnatch that came out on Netflix way back in 2018.

Borderlands EchoVision Live will focus on an entirely new cast of characters to the Borderlands universe, as they find themselves marooned on the planet of Eden-6 after setting on a "Safari Adventure" to follow in the footsteps of some legendary Vault Hunters. The audeince will have an impact on a number of different elements of the story, including the overarching story, the characters' relationship with each other, and many other things.

If this sounds at all familiar to you, it's because it's the same concept as Silent Hill: Ascension, another interactive series currently in development that will allow the audience to influence the outcome of the story. It was revealed during Konami's slew of Silent Hill announcements back in 2022, and is actually being made by the same company (Genvid Entertainment) also working on Borderlands EchoVision Live, as well as a third interactive series called DC Heroes United which was also announced earlier today.

Unfortunately, today's announcement didn't include a release date or even a hint as to when we'll get to see Borderlands EchoVision Live in action, There is a website you can sign up to though if you want some more details, and Borderlands developer Gearbox has promised that more information will be shared pretty soon. Since there's no release date, we can probably expect it be a ways off, but hopefully we'll get a trailer or something soon so we can meet this new cast of characters.

In other Borderlands news, a compilation game bringing together a bunch of games in the series was recently leaked via a ratings board. The Borderlands Compilation: Pandora’s Box was given an age rating in South Africa, hinting at an potential announcement from Gearbox in the next couple of months. It's unknown as to what titles are actually in this compilation, although a safe bet would be the three mainline games rather than any spinoffs like Tales from the Borderlands.
