Spider-Man 2 takes place nine months after the events of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which is seemingly enough time for The Daily Bugle to have been taken over by J. Jonah Jameson.

Spider-Man 2 is currently being shown as part of a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, where several Insomniac Games developers and actors working on the game have shown up to reveal new details about the upcoming sequel. Beyond showing a brand-new trailer that featured Harry Osborn, Mr Negative, and a first proper look at Venom's in-game design, Insomniac has also revealed more about the game's setting during the panel.

One of the key details that has been revealed about Spider-Man 2 is that it takes place between nine and ten months after Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which means that it's been nearly a year since Miles' first solo adventure. Insomniac also revealed a few key things that have happened in that time frame and pointed out that one of the big benefits of this is that Miles and Peter have become a "well-oiled machine".

This was confirmed by Insomniac Games' senior creative director Bryan Intihar, who said, "We're going to pick up roughly nine to ten months after Miles Morales which, if you haven't played it, is an amazing video game by a talented team. What's really great is that you have Pete and Miles, they're a well-oiled machine, they're a great team who lean on each other and support each to protect the city. At the same time, there's a lot of things going on in their life outside the mask."

Intihar went on to reveal that Miles is currently working on his college applications while Peter is starting his new career as a teacher, two things that were actually confirmed in the Spider-Man 2 prequel comic that was released on Free Comic Book Day. Meanwhile, MJ is still at the Daily Bugle, but it's been taken over by J. Jonah Jameson, another key detail that was hinted at in the prequel comic.

The time difference between Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2 is something that fans have been wondering about for some time, as the aforementioned prequel comic made it clear that a fairly significant amount of time had passed. Not only are the main three moving on with big things in their life, but Miles also makes a comment suggesting that he and Pete haven't been working together as much due to how busy he is, something that seemingly isn't the case in the game as Intihar called them a "well-oiled machine".
