According to an insider, the long-rumoured PS5 Pro is reportedly titled "Project Trinity" and aims to have released by November 2024, with developers getting their hands on development kits by the end of this year.

One of the longest-running rumours of this console generation is that both Xbox and Sony are working on "Pro" versions of their latest consoles, similar to what they did for both the PS4 and Xbox One. Despite this being an expected thing, both companies have remained cagey about confirming that they're working on a mid-generation update for the consoles, although a new report claims that Sony's is already underway.

As reported by Tom Henderson for Key To Gaming, the PS5 Pro is reportedly titled "Project Trinity" and is aiming to have released by November 2024 after developers receive their dev kits towards the end of this year. If "Trinity" seems familiar to you, that's because it's a reference to The Matrix, something that Sony has previously done when it called the PS4 Pro "Neo" and the PS VR "Morpheus".

According to an anonymous source, Project Trinity has been in development since early 2022 and has been the only project of its kind in the works since the PS5 released. All of the dates for Project Trinity aren't certain yet, but demos for it are already happening and most studios will have received their dev kits by the end of this year.

As for what the PS5 Pro can actually do, it's reportedly a bit hard to track down. According to Key To Gaming, it will have 30 WGP and 18000mts memory, with one of its main goals being to have improved and consistent FPS at 4K resolution, as well as a new performance mode for 8K resolution. Oh, and of course, there's also going to be a focus on "accelerated" ray tracing.

Henderson also notes that the PS5 Pro looks to be the last bit of major hardware for the generation and that he's not heard anything else about the rumours of a PlayStation 5 Slim model. According to him, the closest thing to this is the new version of the PS5 with a detachable disk drive that's expected to launch later this year.

Although the PS5 Pro was always going to just be a more powerful version of the PS5, it does seem like a lot of the features that are mentioned within this report aren't the sort of thing that most consumers even have access to, let alone care about. The focus on better FPS at 4K is nice, but it's going to be interesting to see the reaction towards a performance mode for 8K resolution, something most people can't even use.
