The claustrophobic environment, limited loot, and of course, other players are all challenges one must overcome to survive Fortnite, let alone master it. Knowing this, it's best to understand the key strategies people use to get closer to victory.
8 Speed Focused
A later addition to the game, but one that many players have enjoyed using to their fullest advantage, vehicles can be hard to find across the map depending on where you land, but if you’re lucky enough to get your hands on one, then you’ll have speed on your side.
They come with their own challenges: they need to be refueled if you travel too far, and they’re an obvious target for anyone who you pass. But, if you know how to drive and where to go, then you can travel the entire island in relative safety and incredibly quickly. This is great when the circle is a sizable distance away, giving you a nice advantage.

Running around with a rocket launcher is helpful at times, but it can also pay to be a little more subtle with your approach.
You’ll want to be perceptive for this strategy, knowing how much sound you’re making and how visible you are at all times. Whether it’s a bush, building, or anything in between, cover is definitely your friend. It’s a good way to let your opponents thin out while you stay hidden and unbothered. Plus, there’s a series of silenced weapons that will help you with this if you can find them.
6 Materials And Building
Whether you love it or hate it, building has been a big part of Fortnite since the beginning. It can be a great way to get the drop on your opponents too.
If you consider yourself good at crafting, then you should put it to good use. Finding out where the circle will end up, grabbing materials, and building a sizeable base will make people know where you are on the map, but it also gives you plenty of defensive tactics if you build it right. Seeing a large fortress in the distance is enough to dissuade less confident players from even going near an area.
5 Sniper
When trying to survive in Fortnite, it’s not always a great idea to get in close to your enemy players. For those who agree with this, the sniper strategy may be for you.
Getting a good long-range rifle can be a the perfect tool to pick off enemies before they even know you’re there. There are a good amount of weapons that work well at mid to long ranges if you can get ahold of them. Nothing’s more stressful than being mid-sprint and being the center of attention for a sniper, so why not be that sniper?
4 Staying Passive
This is a strategy that falls close to the stealthy and sniper-based strategies but with an extra twist. For this, you'll want to avoid fighting as long as possible.
Of course, you can always switch to being more aggressive and combat-focused at any time, but waiting until you are sure to win a fight or until you are attacked can save you a lot of stress and health. Find somewhere out of the way and, like the stealthy strategy above, let everyone else soak up the damage and thin themselves out before you walk in fresh and with plenty of health and ammo.
3 Hyper-Aggressive
Passive play styles aren't for everyone; for those who want a more aggressive option, Fortnite is more than happy to oblige you.
Plenty of other people will drop off the battle bus with you, which means you won't have to look far to find a fight. For those who want to excel at learning the game's controls and how combat functions, it's best to get into a lot of fights. You have to realize that you will probably lose a lot of them, though, especially in the beginning. But this is how you get better, and eventually, you'll find yourself surviving longer and longer.
2 Meta Only
No matter what season it currently is in Fortnite, there is sure to be a meta. Whether it's a brand-new weapon or one that was patched a little too much, they certainly aren't made equal.
The first step to this plan is knowing the current meta. This means either staying up to date with forums and patch notes or diving into the game and learning what weapons and tools the people that kill you often are using. From there it's as simple as hunting these weapons down and using them to your advantage instead.
1 Home Field Advantage
There is a wide array of areas around the Fortnite island. Knowing one or two by heart can give you access to a strategy that not all players have.
The key for this strategy to work is knowing one or two areas of the map like the back of your hand. That way, you can have a designated place you always drop and loot from. From there you can spend the maximum amount of time in these areas cutting down the opposition before you have to move with the circle, racking up kills and loot the whole time.
