"Do you want me to fuck up? Do you want me to step in the shit a little bit?" insider Jeff Grubb asked on his podcast. "Metroid Prime 2 remaster probably is coming out relatively soonish".

Nintendo shadow-dropped Metroid Prime Remastered for Switch on February 8 earlier this year. Since then, rumours have surfaced about potential remasters for its two sequels ahead of the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4 (which was announced six years ago). Luckily, it sounds like we won't have to wait as long for the second game to make a comeback.

Originally launched at the end of 2004, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes saw Samus Aran on a mission to save Galactic Federation marines from a ship near the planet Aether, only to find that they had been massacred by an interdimensional species known as the Ing. Much like the first game, you're tasked with exploring the planet and uncovering various temples, but there's a new character to contend with--Samus' double, AKA Dark Samus. Building on the back of the original game, MP2 included wall jumping, the Screw Attack, and even a multiplayer mode, and this saw its launch to resounding critical success with a Metacritic score of 92.

This isn't the first time that Grubb has revealed info on Metroid Prime 2. Earlier this year, he claimed that both MP2 and MP3 remasters were on the way, but he clarified that neither would be as extensive in scope as the first game, which many argue is closer to a remake. "My understanding is [that the first Metroid Prime is] getting the big remaster treatment, and Metroid Prime 2 and Metroid Prime 3 are probably getting updated controls and some things like that, but they're not getting quite the same overhaul".

Aside from these details, we don't know much else, such as when an MP3 remaster is expected to launch. However, Grubb did say in his newest podcast that Nintendo also has plans for Zelda "later this year". All we have to go off of is that it's "not Tears of the Kingdom related" which could mean anything. It could mean Wind Waker and Twilight Princess ports, it could mean another spin-off like Cadence of Hyrule, or it could mean a concert. As Grubb says, draw your own conclusions. Until Nintendo actually announces what this Zelda info is about, all we can do is speculate.

In the meantime, we have Metroid Prime 2 Remastered to look forward to, and if the first game is anything to go by, fans will leap at the chance to play it again. Within hours, the original game's remaster sold out everywhere and was even scalped for up to $150. Let's just hope that part of the series' history doesn't repeat itself.
