On the Snitcher's Discord, one community member asked prominent horror leaker DuskGolem if they know when Resident Evil 9 is launching, to which they replied, "2025, I'll say that much, though [it will] probably be announced next year."

These claims line up with previous Resident Evil release dates. Biohazard launched in 2017, and two years later, Resident Evil 2 Remake launched. Village launched two years after that in 2021, followed by Resident Evil 4 Remake in 2023. This would put Resident Evil 9 two years from now, which also follows the pattern of releasing a new title, a remake, and then a new title.

If Capcom continues to follow this trend, which it has for six years, then we could also see a new remake in 2027. In the meantime, Dusk claims that a "big Capcom game" will be announced at the end of this year which is set to launch in Fall 2024, though it's unclear what this big game is. On the Gaming Leaks and Rumours subreddit, some speculate that it might be a new Monster Hunter, which is rumoured to be appearing at The Game Awards, while others hope that it's a Dino Crisis remake. Probably not, but we can always dream.

Spoilers for Resident Evil Village and its DLC follow.

In Resident Evil Village, it's revealed that Ethan died at the start of Biohazard and that we have been playing as his mould clone the entire time, which itself finally dies at the end of Village. We then jump ahead to see mould Ethan's daughter all grown up, a plot point which was followed in the Shadows of Rose DLC.

Taking place 15 years after the end of the base game, we find out that, due to her being half-mould, Rose has spent her entire life under Chris Redfield's supervision (due to her being classed as a bioweapon). She eventually faces the consciousness of Village villain Miranda who has been manipulating her, now stored in the organic database Megamycete. But she also finds her father, Ethan, who is going by the alias Micheal. Together, the two destroy Miranda once and for all.

Capcom announced that the Winters' story is over, meaning that Resi9 is likely to follow a new character if not a legacy one. But right now, we don't know enough to do anything but speculate--it might bring Jill, Claire, or Leon back, but it could also tell a completely new story. We'll have to wait and see.
