With 1010 Pokemon through nine generations, it makes it a bit difficult to include all of them in one game. Scarlet and Violet launched with less than half, coming in at 400 total, and while some of the cuts may be understandable, fans always want to see more.

The new DLCs bring with them a chance to see old Pokemon who didn't make the original cut. Whether it be a personal favorite, completing a project, or seeing an old friend re-imagined in the new game style, there are some Pokemon we believe should absolutely be catchable in the new games.

10 Bulbasaur And Squirtle

Pokemon - Bulbasaur and Squirtle

Charmander's popularity is undeniable, and has been enough to earn it a special place in recent games. Squirtle and Bulbasaur haven't been nearly as lucky, however.

While they aren't as beloved as Charmander, they still have their dedicated fans who would love to see them make an appearance in the DLCs. What do the cutest turtle and cutest plant have to do to get some love from the creators? Let them have their time to shine. All starters have a special place in the hearts of the fans, but the gen one starters especially are important. Let them have their chance to shine.

9 Cubone And Marowak

Pokemon Most Signature Moves: Marowak Family with a mother and child to the right of Alolan Marowak.

Cubone is a cute little Pokemon with a tragic backstory and a great evolution. Marowak packs a punch whether you're running its original form or its Alolan form. Unfortunately, both of those have been absent from Scarlet and Violet.

Marowak's naturally learned moves are nothing too special, but it's also capable of learning a variety of TM moves, including devastating attacks like Ice Beam, Earthquake, and Flamethrower. If you've ever wanted to catch your opponent off guard, bring in a Ground type and hit them with a Fire-type move. They'll never see it coming.

8 Sirfetch'd

sirfetch'd

Farfetch'd was an underwhelming and somewhat forgettably basic gen one Pokemon. Of all the Pokemon to get an evolution later on, it was probably the most surprising, but boy, did Sirfetch'd deliver. If you weren't a fan of its diverse moveset, you at least had to admire the way it holds its leek-sword and general demeanor.

This noble fighting bird brings a lot more to the table, and still has more to offer the new generation of Pokemon. In general, more Pokemon with swords are always appreciated.

7 Aegislash

 Aegislash in battle

Pokemon with swords, or Pokemon who are swords. Who's picky? Aegislash has a shield form and a sword form, which changes depending on the moves it's using. It's Steel/Ghost type, making it a rarity - the only others are Honedge, Doublade, and Gholdengo.

It may not be the strongest pick for your team, but its dual-type and design make it stand out in its own ways. And with the right combination of training and attacks, you can turn Aegislash into an unexpected KO machine.

6 Alcremie

Winter Pokemon Vanilla Alcremie and Mint Alcremie

Generation 8 introduced some unique evolution mechanics, and Alcremie is probably one of the best examples of this. Its first form, Milcery, will evolve into one of nine forms when it's holding a certain type of sweet, and its appearance is determined by the sweet it's holding, the time of the day, how long the trainer spins, and whether the spin is clockwise or counterclockwise.

It's a little complicated, but the resulting Alcremie is worth it. It even gets its own move that's unique to it - Decorate. It's special in so many ways.

5 Chandelure

Chandelure in the Pokemon anime

Chandelure, unfortunately, suffers from being part of the generation to introduce Trubbish and other undesirable Pokemon designs, and therefore tends to get lumped in with them.

That tends to ignore several great things about it, such as being one of only eight Pokemon to be Ghost/Fire types. It boasts an extremely high Special Attack, and can have a Hidden Ability, Infiltrator. This allows it to pass through barriers (such as Protect) and strike its opponents. Its design is pretty amazing, too. Don't you want a haunted chandelier in your home?

4 Butterfree

butterfree

Bug-type Pokemon may have gotten better over the years, but Butterfree is one that still lives in our hearts. It's also a bit of a Swiss army knife with its ability to learn a variety of different moves from TMs.

Butterfree enjoyed minor popularity just from being one of Ash's original Pokemon, but it's largely been ignored since then. Even those who kept Caterpie long enough to evolve it all the way up traded Butterfree out for a stronger, later-game Pokemon fast. But long-time players have grown to appreciate the butterfly Pokemon, and seeing it back in generation nine would be a joy.

3 Excadrill

Excadrill is an unexpected powerhouse, if you know what you're doing. Speedrunners have made it a main in runs of Pokemon Shield, where it easily tears through the competition.

Even in casual runs, its naturally learned moves make it absolutely devastating. Starting at level 34, it learns Dig, Drill Run, and Earthquake, all of which have an attack power of 80 or higher, and accuracies of 95 or 100. It also learns Swords Dance, to boost its attack, and at level 58 it learns Fissure. While this has a very low accuracy, it's also an insta-kill move.

Overall, Excadrill would really shake up Scarlet's and Violet's rosters.

2 Tyranitar

Tyranitar Leaning Forward With A Closed Fist

Tyranitar is a Pokemon you have to work for. Larvitar will evolve at level 30 to Pupitar, which will then evolve at level 55 to Tyranitar, making it one of the highest-level Pokemon to still evolve. It's a grind, but a grind that's worth it for the resulting final evolution.

While Tyranitar was available in Tera Raids for a brief time, that's not the same as catching a Larvitar and molding it into the kind of Pokemon you want. Those who enjoy raising Pokemon and carefully curating their moves and IVs deserve the chance to work their magic here.

1 Furfrou

Pokemon Gen 9 Evolutions 10 furfrou

This cute dog Pokemon is absent from all Switch games, making it a nightmare for people trying to build Living Dexes. While this Normal-type maybe isn't the most exciting, completionists everywhere would probably weep with joy for the opportunity to finally get it into Pokemon Home and take one step closer to having all 1010 Pokemon present in their Dexes.

It may not be a surprise pick for your competitive team, but Furfrou is a good boy, and good boys deserve to finally be in a Switch game.
